Why First Aid at Work Training Matters?

Emergencies don’t wait. From accidents on construction sites to sudden illness in an office, every workplace in Northern Ireland should have trained first aiders ready to act.

Under the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982, employers are required to provide adequate and appropriate first aid provision. Our FAW 3- day course ensures that you and your team are prepared, compliant, and able to save lives.

Emergency Response Skills

Learn how to assess incidents quickly, check vital signs, and deliver immediate first aid treatment to casualties until professional help arrives.

CPR & Defibrillator Use

Gain confidence performing CPR on adults and children and practise safe use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in real-life scenarios.

Injury & Illness Managment

Develop skills in treating bleeding, burns, fractures, and medical conditions such as seizures, asthma, strokes, and heart-related emergencies.

Participant Requirements

Before enrolling, ensure you meet the essential criteria:

  • be 18 or older
  • You should be physically able to perform CPR, place casualties in the recovery position, and demonstrate first aid techniques
  • A good understanding of English is required to follow the course and complete assessments

These requirements help ensure safe participation and compliance with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982, which set the standards for workplace first aid provision.

  • What is the First Aid at Work (FAW) course?

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is a 3-day, Level 3 qualification designed for workplace first aiders in Northern Ireland. Delivered at Dangle Academy’s Belfast training centre, it provides the practical skills and knowledge needed to manage medical emergencies confidently and in line with HSENI regulations.

  • How long is the FAW certificate valid?

Your First Aid at Work certificate is valid for 3 years. To remain compliant with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982, you’ll need to complete a 2-day requalification course before it expires. If it does expire then a further full 3-day FAW course is required.

  • Is there a maximum weight limit for manual lifting?

There is no fixed legal maximum weight. Safe limits depend on factors like load, posture, frequency, and individual capability emphasising the importance of conducting risk assessments and planning.

  • Who needs FAW training in Northern Ireland?

FAW training is recommended for employers whose risk assessments identify medium to high-risk workplaces such as construction sites, factories, warehouses, and healthcare settings. It’s also suitable for organisations that need more than the one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course.

  • What does the 3-day FAW course cover?

The FAW course covers a wide range of skills, including:

    • CPR & safe use of an AED (defibrillator)
    • Managing unconscious casualties (recovery position)
    • Treating bleeding, burns, fractures, and shock
    • Responding to heart attacks, strokes, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, and anaphylaxis
    • Recording and reporting workplace incidents in line with RIDDOR Northern Ireland (NI) 1997 regulations, enforced by HSENI law
