Key modules of the First Aid at Work Course are?

Our First Aid at Work course is designed to give participants the competence and confidence to respond effectively to a wide range of workplace first aid emergencies. With a strong focus on hands-on learning, attendees will take part in practical scenarios and simulations, supported by expert instruction and theoretical guidance.


What You’ll Learn in a First Aid at Work Course?

Key modules covered during the training include:

  • The role and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Managing incidents and initial assessment of casualties
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of AEDs
  • Treatment of unconscious casualties (including recovery position)
  • Choking, bleeding, burns, and shock management
  • Dealing with minor injuries, fractures, sprains and strains
  • Medical conditions including seizures, diabetes, asthma, and anaphylaxis
  • First aid procedures for eye injuries, head injuries and chest trauma
  • Record-keeping and incident reporting (RIDDOR)


Who Should Attend a First Aid at Work Course?

This course is suitable for nominated workplace first aiders in medium- to high-risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, engineering, and large-scale operations.

No previous first aid experience is required.


Attendees completing the First Aid at Work Training will be able to;

  • Perform a primary survey and assess the scene for dangers, response, airway, breathing, and circulation (DRABC).
  • Administer CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) effectively, including use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Place a casualty in the recovery position and monitor their vital signs.
  • Recognise and respond appropriately to choking incidents in adults and children.
  • Control external bleeding and manage casualties in shock using safe, effective techniques.
  • Identify and treat burns, scalds, fractures, sprains, and soft tissue injuries.
  • Respond to medical emergencies such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma attacks, diabetic episodes, and seizures.
  • Safely manage unconscious casualties and understand when and how to call for emergency help.
  • Maintain accurate incident records and understand employer responsibilities under RIDDOR.
  • Confidently act as a designated workplace first aider, applying first aid principles in real-life scenarios.

First Aid at Work Training Course Prerequisites

  • No formal prerequisites although learners must be physically able to preform First Aid at work procedures, such as CPR, recovery position etc.

Assessment & Certification

  • Ongoing practical assessment throughout the course
  • Final practical evaluation
  • Upon successful completion, delegates receive a First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate, valid for 3 years, accredited and recognised across the UK
