Train the Painter, ICATS and OPITO are separate training schemes used in industrial painting and protective coatings.
Our courses are developed and delivered by Dangle Academy. They are not delivered under the Train the Painter, ICATS or OPITO schemes. Successful delegates receive a Dangle Academy Certificate of Achievement.
This is a local training option for employers and technicians who need practical coating skills in Belfast.
Which Industrial Painter Course Do You Need?
Choose Bronze, Silver or Gold, or a stand-alone specialist module. Bronze provides the foundation. Silver adds one chosen specialist route: abrasive blasting or airless spraying. Gold covers the foundation and both specialist routes.
Industrial Painter Training – Bronze (Foundation)
Our foundation-level industrial painter course introduces safe industrial painting and basic coating application.
Learn surface preparation, brush and roller application, PPE and coating basics. The course also covers site safety, access and environmental awareness.
Industrial Painter Training – Silver
Our intermediate industrial painter course builds on foundation skills with one chosen specialist route.
Silver includes Bronze content plus either abrasive blasting or airless spraying. The blasting route covers equipment, abrasive media, safety and surface preparation standards such as SA 2.5.
Industrial Painter Training – Gold
Our advanced industrial painter course covers the full industrial painter pathway.
Gold includes the Bronze foundation and both abrasive blasting and airless spraying. Learn equipment set-up, safe working methods, application control, fault awareness and clean-up. Silver delegates can progress by adding their missing specialist route.
Marine Painting Training
Our marine painting course supports coating maintenance and repair on vessels and other marine assets.
Learn about corrosion, surface preparation and marine coating application. Topics include site conditions, stripe coating, coating defects and inspection awareness.

Thin Film Intumescent Coating Application Training
Our passive fire protection painting course covers thin film intumescent coatings for structural steel.
Learn substrate preparation, primer compatibility and application methods. The module also covers wet and dry film thickness, quality checks, common defects and safe working methods.

Where is the training delivered?
Training takes place in person at Dangle Academy's Belfast training centre. Our industrial painter courses are classroom and practical training. We do not offer any part of this training online or through e-learning.
