GWO Basic Safety Training Course
GWO Basic Safety Training, or BST, is a package of core wind industry safety modules. It combines practical skills with the knowledge needed for safer work on wind energy sites.
The package covers height safety, first aid, fire awareness and manual handling. It suits new technicians, contractors entering the sector and workers whose employers require GWO training.

What the GWO BST Course Covers
Delegates complete four core safety modules during standard BST.
The course includes:
- GWO Working at Height — harness use, fall protection, safe movement at height and basic rescue techniques
- GWO First Aid — CPR, AED use, casualty assessment, emergency response and treatment of common injuries. Enhanced First Aid is a separate booking upgrade.
- GWO Fire Awareness — fire risks, prevention, alarm response, evacuation and basic firefighting equipment
- GWO Manual Handling — safer lifting, posture, load assessment and injury prevention
- Practical exercises linked to wind turbine and renewable energy environments
- Safety awareness for working on wind energy sites
- Certification recorded against the delegate’s WINDA profile
It is the participant’s responsibility to complete WINDA registration onboarding before attending any GWO course. You will not be eligible without an active WINDA record. We strongly recommend completing WINDA registration before booking to avoid delays. If a participant fails to meet these pre-requisites, they may be removed from the course and no refund will be issued.

GWO BST Assessment and Certification
Assessment takes place throughout the course. Instructors observe participation and practical exercises in each module.
You will practise work at height, first aid, fire response and safer manual handling. Assessment checks that you can apply the relevant safety skills.
After successful completion, your GWO training records are uploaded to WINDA.
