SAFETY HARNESS INSPECTION & USER TRAINING COURSE

Course Overview

This practical one (1) day course provides essential training for anyone who wears, inspects, or manages the use of safety harnesses and lanyards when working at height. It covers correct fitting, usage, maintenance, and inspection procedures in line with current legislation and manufacturer guidelines.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for:

• Operatives working at height
• Supervisors responsible for issuing or inspecting harnesses
• Health & safety representatives
• Anyone requiring hands-on harness awareness and inspection skills
• All operatives who require a safety harness and lanyards to carryout their work safely

Course Content

• Legal responsibilities and relevant legislation (e.g. Work at Height Regulations 2005)
• Understand the main aims of Health & Safety Legislation (H&SWO 1978 NI, Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations, Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992 and Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1999 NI (PUWER)
• Types of harnesses, lanyards, and fall arrest systems
• Pre-use inspection and fitting procedures
• Identifying damage, defects, and wear - using tactile inspections
• Cleaning, maintenance, storage, and lifespan of equipment
• Record keeping and equipment registers
• Hands-on harness fitting and inspection practice
• Manufacturer guidance and industry best practice

Course Duration

• 1 Day (8 Hours)

Assessment

Delegates will be assessed through:

• Practical demonstration of correct harness fitting and inspection
• Short multiple-choice questionnaire to confirm understanding

Certification

Successful participants will receive a Dangle Academy Safety Harness Inspection and User Training certificate, valid for 3 years.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, but delegates should be physically able to wear a harness and participate in practical activities.

Additional Information

• Participants should wear suitable clothing for trying on a harnesses.
• All training equipment will be provided
